EV Mode Feature on a Hybrid Car, Here’s How It Works!
9 February, 2023
Do you know or have you ever heard of the EV mode feature on a hybrid car? This feature allows the car to move only relying on battery power. Besides being more efficient, this feature also makes car acceleration more optimal and minimizes emissions.
Hybrid cars have recently been popular in society. This car has two sources of propulsion, namely gasoline and batteries or an electric motor, thus making the driving experience more interesting and using fuel more efficiently.
Hybrid cars are equipped with various advanced and attractive features. One of them is the EV mode feature. Then what exactly is EV mode and what are the conditions for a car to be able to drive in EV mode? Check out the full description below.
Definition of EV Mode
Hybrid car concepts usually combine at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to propel the car, and the system recaptures energy through regenerative braking. The electric motor and gasoline engine will work alternately to drive the engine. However, sometimes both can also work simultaneously which makes the use of gasoline more efficient.
Today’s hybrid cars are equipped with the EV mode feature. This feature allows the vehicle engine to be driven completely using the battery. In this mode, the machine will not generate electricity. You are also calmer when driving and more economical because it can save fuel.
Functions and Benefits of the EV Mode Feature
The presence of the EV Mode feature on a hybrid car offers many benefits and is very useful for those of you who often travel far. Some of the advantages and functions of the hybrid EV Mode feature include:
- The EV Mode feature uses electric power so it is more fuel efficient and has fewer emissions.
- The EV Mode feature is almost silent so it can reduce noise levels when you are navigating.
- EV mode will only be active under certain conditions so if the battery is insufficient then this feature cannot be activated.
How the Hybrid Car EV Mode Feature Works
When EV mode is active, the wheels will be driven by an electric motor that takes energy from the battery. However, please note that this EV mode cannot always be used while driving. In some conditions, EV mode cannot be fully activated.
To be able to activate this mode, the battery capacity of a hybrid car is at least above 40 percent. If it is below that number, a notification will appear showing that EV Mode Unavailable and Hybrid Battery Low. That way, you need to charge the battery before driving.
To be able to activate EV mode again, the battery needs to be at least at 80 percent. After the battery is charged, EV mode will remain active if the car is driving at low speed.
EV Mode is one of the superior features that can provide a more interesting driving experience when using a hybrid car. With this feature, fuel usage is more efficient and the emissions produced are also less.
One type of car equipped with the EV mode feature is Wuling Almaz Hybrid. The EV Mode feature is one of the driving mode features on Almaz Hybrid driven by electrical energy from a Ternary Lithium type battery. This hybrid car from Wuling Motors is able to better maximize fuel efficiency and produce fewer emissions so it is more environmentally friendly.
