Air ev becomes ‘the first time electrical vehicle in the musical’ and Cloud EV supports operational needs
Jakarta, May 23, 2025 – In line with its spirit of “Dibangun di Indonesia untuk Anda”, Wuling Motors (Wuling) supports local creative works through its participation in the Re-Run of Musikal Lutung Kasarung held by EKI Dance Company on May 22–25, 2025, at Ciputra Artpreneur Gallery, Jakarta. The collaboration between Wuling and EKI Dance Company proves that the world of arts and culture can synergize with the automotive industry to create contemporary works in Indonesian identity.
“Wuling is proud to be part of the re-run of Musikal Lutung Kasarung, which aims to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage through creative cross-industry collaboration. Wuling expresses its support by presenting the Air ev and Cloud EV electric vehicles. We hope this collaboration can inspire more synergies between the performing arts and the automotive industry in Indonesia,” said Ricky Christian, Marketing Operation Director of Wuling Motors.
Wuling supported the Re-Run of Musikal Lutung Kasarung both on and off stage, even pioneering technology integration into stage performance. In the opening scene, the Air ev appears alongside the lead characters, Purbasari and Purbararang, marking the first-ever appearance of an electric vehicle as part of an on-stage choreography, creating a “Starstruck Moment”. While off stage, Wuling provided three Cloud EV units to support operational mobility during the performance.
The Re-Run Lutung Kasarung musical performance is full of meaning and historical value. Taken from the Sundanese legend of the prince Gurumuda, who was cursed to become a lutung kasarung, this folklore teaches about goodness because Gurumuda’s curse was lifted after he found true love regardless of appearance with Purbasari, a princess who has also been cursed by her sister, Purbararang. EKI Dance Company then packaged this story that has been passed down from generation to generation with contemporary dialogue, dynamic choreography, modern music, and high-tech stage settings to keep it entertaining for families and younger audiences. The performance is further enhanced by rising stars in the theater scene, such as Gerry Gerardo as Lutung Kasarung, Nala Amrytha as Purbasari, and Ara Ajisiwi as Purbararang, with the show produced by Aiko Senosoenoto, Nala Amrytha, and Alim Sudio.
“We highly appreciate Wuling’s support for this re-run of Musikal Lutung Kasarung. This collaboration proves that local cultural heritage can be presented in a modern and proud way. Wuling’s participation both on and off stage shows that the automotive and arts industries can work hand-in-hand to preserve Indonesian culture. We hope this collaboration brings a fresh take on the fusion of technology and creative expression in Indonesia,” said Alim Sudio, Producer of EKI Dance Company.
The original performance of Musikal Lutung Kasarung premiered at Galeri Indonesia Kaya in May 2024 and successfully captured public attention. The hashtag #LutungKasarungMusikal even trended, generating over 3,000 digital content and more than 20 million views on social media. The musical played a major role in reviving young audiences’ interest in Indonesian folklore. Due to high public enthusiasm, EKI Dance Company brought the musical back in a re-run, expected to attract around 2,100 audiences across seven shows over four days.
