Wuling Celebrates the Production of 3,000,000 Electric Vehicles Globally and 40,000 EV Units in Indonesia

Also marks the local assembly of MAGIC Battery that will be used in Wuling EV production
Cikarang, May 24, 2025 – PT SGMW Motor Indonesia (Wuling) celebrated three major milestones in the history of the automotive industry, both globally and in Indonesia, on Friday (May 23). The celebration marked the global production of 3,000,000 electric vehicles (EV), with 40,000 units contributed by Wuling’s factory in Cikarang, West Java. Additionally, Wuling also introduced the locally assembled MAGIC Battery. This moment reflects Wuling’s consistent strategy and commitment to the development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia.
“At this moment, we gather to celebrate three monumental milestones for Wuling. These achievements are proof of Wuling’s capability to drive technological innovation, support sustainability, and consistently deliver global quality in the EV segment,” said Arif Pramadana, Vice President of Wuling Motors.
The celebration, held at Wuling’s factory in Cikarang, was attended by executives from SAIC Motor, SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC International, and PT SGMW Motor Indonesia. The ceremony began with the unveiling of the 40,000th Wuling EV unit produced in Indonesia, conducted by Wang Xiaoqiu (Chairman of SAIC Motor) and Dr. Yao Zuoping (Deputy General Manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling). This was followed by the unveiling of two locally assembled MAGIC Batteries by Piao Chunxu (Assistant General Manager of SAIC International), Tang Wensheng (President Director of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia), Wei Yong (Vice President of SAIC Motor), and Zhao Xiaobin (Deputy General Manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling).
Wuling made history as the first Chinese automotive manufacturer to reach the milestone of producing 3 million EV units. This achievement is the result of over 20 years of leadership in the global automotive industry. During that time, Wuling also recorded global sales of 1.5 million units, or equivalent to 50% of new electric vehicles (NEV) sales in the world. This accomplishment demonstrates Wuling’s ability to lead the shift toward electric mobility while remaining committed to delivering environmentally friendly, safe, and high-quality automotive technology.
Indonesia has played a significant role in this success, contributing 40,000 EV units through its Cikarang plant, which serves as a central production hub for both the domestic market and ASEAN countries, as well as other right-hand-drive markets. For Indonesia, the presence of Wuling’s manufacturing facility proves the country’s capability as a producer and participant in the global supply chain. In addition, Wuling’s facility complements the local EV ecosystem to accelerate the achievement of national sustainability goals through vehicle electrification, and improve the mobility of Indonesians by providing high-quality vehicles.
“Wuling in Indonesia is also the first Chinese automotive manufacturer to localize EV battery assembly in Indonesia. The presence of this facility realizes an integrated EV production system that accelerates vehicle unit manufacturing, shortens parts distribution time, and cuts logistics costs for parts delivery. Thus, making EV consumers worry-free in owning a Wuling electric car,” added Arif Pramadana.
MAGIC Battery is Wuling’s latest battery innovation that integrates advanced technology to deliver high performance and maximum safety. The term MAGIC Battery represents five core aspects: Multifunction Unitized Structure Technology (MUST), Advanced Cell Safety, Greater Performance, Intelligent Management, and Combustion Free. The MUST technology, inspired by aircraft wing design, unifies battery components into a strong, lightweight, and modular structure that improves structural strength by up to 60%. Because of the Advanced Cell Safety feature, the battery cells are equipped with an extra protective layer. This advantage is supported by the High Precision Battery Management System to monitor battery condition.
