Understand Safety Car Features To Avoid Operate Wrongly
17 April, 2023
In order to reduce the risk of accidents, cars are supported by advanced technology that is more complete than it was a few years ago. The security system in the car has been developed so that the driver can drive comfortably. One of them is by adding several safety features to the car.
The problem is that even though the car is supported by qualified safety features, in fact many users are still not aware about safety features of their cars and do not fully understand the car’s security system. To avoid unwanted risk, here are some safety features in cars that you should understand!
1.Airbags
Airbags have been existing for decades. The latest model of car airbags can inflate in just milliseconds. How this airbag works depends on the sensors that detect if there is a collision in front of the car, side or rear.
There are several types of car airbags, including adaptive, dual stage and curtain airbags. The most effective is the curtain airbag, because it can maintain safety in the event of an accident. Curtain airbags are able to protect passengers in place, so the risk of head injuries can be minimized.
2. Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)
Before ABS brakes existed in the automotive world, you could lock the wheels of a car, so the car couldn’t turn. Well, the function of ABS brakes is to prevent this problem. Wheels can keep spinning even when braking.
ABS works using 4 sensors to provide feedback to the main electronic control unit. When you hit the brake pedal and the car starts to slow down, the ABS system monitors how fast each wheel is turning. Then the system will adjust the strength of the brakes and ensure that the wheels do not stop completely. This keeps you safe from skids.
3. Collision Warning
Along with the rapid development of technology, safety features are also increasingly modern. One of the most sophisticated is the Collision Warning or a warning that a collision will occur. This technology provides advance warning to the driver, not just measures to prevent injury after an accident occurs.
This feature works by using a combination of radar, laser and camera technology to detect any objects around the car. If an object is detected, this assistant will give a warning. It can be in the form of a sound or a special warning sign on the display and some are equipped with special brakes.
Just like the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) safety feature available on Wuling Alvez. This car with complete safety features is designed to accompany the driver while driving. The existence of the ADAS feature makes the driver calmer. ADAS features include:
- Safe Distance & Braking Assistance: Intelligent Hydraulic Braking Assistance (IHBA), Safe Distance Warning (SDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation System (CMS), and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
- Adaptive Cruise and Lane Recognition: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Bend Cruise Assistance (BCA), Traffic Jam Assistance (TJA) with lane-keeping function, and Intelligent Cruise Assistance (ICA).
- Lane Recognition: Lane Departure Warning.
4. Blind Spot Warning
Driving long distances will be very tiring and often the driver will feel bored, even lose focus in the middle of driving. Now, many new cars are equipped with Blind Spot Warning, specifically for driving on toll roads. This feature maintains safety on the highway and keeps you from crashing while driving at high speed.
The way a blind spot warning works is almost the same as a collision warning because it relies on radar, laser and camera technology. This technology will continuously monitor the position of the car on the road. If there is an object in an invisible spot, the system will immediately send a signal and give a warning.
5. Brake Assist
This feature includes modern car safety features and can be found in newer cars. Brake Assist is designed to automatically brake which is safer and more efficient. Drivers can stop the car faster to avoid accidents.
Brake Assist works by having a brake power threshold. If the driver presses the brake pedal hard and fast, the system will assume this is an emergency brake. Then, the system will apply full force to the brakes. This full power will work more quickly and efficiently so that the car will stop faster, but still be safe.
6.Traction Control
Drivers who have been driving for years may feel that they don’t need traction control anymore in car safety features, but in fact this feature is still considered important. Mainly to maintain security in modern cars that are designed to drive on the highway. Traction Control is able to prevent collisions caused by driver errors when turning or driving on dangerous roads, such as snowy and slippery roads.
Traction Control is an electronic system connected to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Just like ABS, this system relies on sensors, which will tell how fast the car’s wheels are spinning compared to the car’s actual speed. Traction Control is very good for reducing wheel spin when the car accelerates.
Those are some safety features on the car. Although sometimes it is often overlooked, understanding how safety features work is very important. At least so you don’t get it wrong.
