Hybrid Car Components and Their Functions
27 December, 2022
A hybrid car is a type of vehicle that uses two types of power sources, namely an internal gasoline engine and an electric motor. The use of this type of car is considered more efficient and more environmentally friendly. But do you know what the components of a hybrid car are?
Recently, people have started to switch to using hybrid cars. Besides being more fuel efficient, hybrid cars also have fairly easy maintenance. In addition, many types of hybrid cars are currently equipped with various advanced features.
Curious about the types and workings of hybrid car components that make them more efficient? Check out the full review below.
1. Internal Combustion Engine
An internal combustion engine is a hybrid car component with the same shape and function as a gasoline engine. This hybrid car engine consists of several components such as pistons, cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, and others.
In a hybrid car, the internal combustion engine components are designed in such a way as to provide maximum performance and efficiency. The function of this component is to rotate the car wheels, which will be used interchangeably with the motor components.
2. Electric Motors
The next hybrid car component is the electric motor. This component functions as a propulsion source for the car’s wheels apart from the internal combustion engine. In an internal combustion engine, the turning of the wheels uses gasoline, while the electric motor uses an electric current that comes from the battery as a hybrid fuel.
3. Generators
The generator in a hybrid car has almost the same principle as the alternator. Its function is to produce electricity so that it can be used to charge electric car batteries and to drive the electric motor when turning the wheels.
This component utilizes the rotation of the internal combustion engine to generate electrical energy. Furthermore, the electrical energy will be used to charge the battery and drive the electric motor.
4. Power Split Devices
This hybrid car component functions to transfer rotation from the internal combustion engine (ICE), or it could be from the electric motor to be forwarded to the wheels. The power split device will connect the two car power sources to the wheel axle.
In hybrid vehicles, the power source is divided into 3 parts: the gasoline engine, electric motor, and the car’s wheels through a generator. The power split device is positioned near the flywheel, to be precise, where the clutch is on manual cars and the torque converter on automatic cars.
5. Power Control Units
The power control unit is a component of a hybrid car that is the core of the entire system in the vehicle. The function of this component is to regulate the electrical energy needed and generated in each power source to turn the wheels as needed while driving.
In general, a power control unit has several functions: a converter from DC to AC to rotate electric motors, a DCDC converter to convert low voltage, and a converter to increase electric voltage.
There are many hybrid cars, including the plug-in hybrid recharged by a hybrid car charger. One type of hybrid car that is a favorite of today’s people is the Almaz Hybrid. This car is equipped with advanced features and various hybrid car components with sophisticated technology. Almaz Hybrid can be a smart choice for today’s vehicles.
