5 Extreme Spots in Indonesia to Test Your Driving Skill
14 July, 2023
When you buy a car, you know exactly what you are going to use it for. Some of you might even have more than 1 car—one for the trip to the office and one for your hobby. The hobby might range from trekking, racing, to modification. And usually, there is no specific reason why you have to do it other than you just love to do it. It’s in your blood and desire to revel in it. Hence, we have mapped out some extreme spots for you to put that hobby into practice, although we have to warn you that if you do not have that skill yet, maybe you can just go there to take pictures and watch everyone else do it
The Beautiful Geopark Ciletuh – West Java
This area is in Sukabumi regency, West Java. You can reach this area by driving through Jagorawi toll road and take the last exit at Ciawi gate in Bogor. Then you can go straight ahead at the Ciawi crossroads to Sukabumi if you are traveling from Jakarta. The view in this area is amazing and what’s fun is not only the end of the journey, but the journey itself; the sharp turn, the steep slope, the relatively strong wind, all these combinations will test not only your car’s stability but also your skill and stamina in driving.

The Challenging 44 Turns – West Sumatra
The ‘Kelok 44’ in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra is a legend known throughout the world, especially among cyclists because this area is often used for international cycling competitions. This road is accessible when you travel between Maninjau—Bukittinggi and it’s extremely challenging because you have to take sharp turns for the whole 10 kilometers ahead and 1,500 meters above sea level. Do you feel that sweat coming off already? Why not go ahead and make a visit to this area soon and test your driving skill?
The Mountainous Homecoming Route – Nagrek, West Java
People coming from East or Central Java most likely have traveled the Nagrek route in West Java, at least once a year during the Lebaran homecoming period. Created by cutting through mountainous areas, this road offers travelers numerous turns, climbs, and slopes on the high land. This road even becomes dangerous during rainy days, because it gets slippery. However, recently the Cijapati route has been used as an alternative route for people who head to Garut or Tasikmalaya if the Nagrek route is locked down in traffic.
The Panoramic Senggigi Route – West Nusa Tenggara
The panorama is an absolute beauty, but the road can be a danger if you are not being careful. This is the route that you have to get through when travelling in Lombok to visit the breath-taking beauty of Senggigi Beach. Similar to the above, you will experience the sharp turn, steep climb and slope along the way. So, be strong with those legs and make sure your Wuling car’s engine & brakes are well maintained.

Trans Flores – East Nusa Tenggara
Some areas in Indonesia still retain their natural beauty, but unfortunately, we also remain untouched by development. But, thanks to the current government, now more areas are being more developed with the building of roads and public facilities. That includes the Trans Flores in East Nusa Tenggara.
But, when you travel from Ende to Labuan Bajo—yes, that breath-taking oceanic beauty—you will have to endure this thrilling route. Not only it is extreme in turns and slopes, but the crazy 664-kilometer-long distance means you have to be extra cautious with your fuel capacity.
Last and definitely not least, always be careful when driving and make sure you regularly maintain & put your car in service so that the engine remains in good condition and you can win every road you go through. Always drive for a better life!
